Phototherapy is a modern, easy, effective and well established method for treatment of different dermatological problems. The therapy makes use of the anti-inflammatory properties of UVA and UVB rays or combination of both on the skin. In principle, UV rays are divided into 3 groups : UVA - with wavelength of 320-400nm, UVB – with wavelength 280-320 nm and UVC – with wavelength of 190-280 nm. UVA and UVB rays are of major importance for the human beings as UVC rays do not reach the earth surface.
The influence of the rays on the human body is diverse and the positive effect of the rays on different skin problems has been noticed in the beginning of the 20th century. Phototherapy has undergone numerous studies and today the therapeutic effect is proved.
Derma Vita Clinic has one of the latest and most modern stand- up cabinets for phototherapy manufactured by the German company Waldmann. The cabinet uses a combination of UVA and UVB rays. The length of the treatment and the dose of rays is supervised by a trained doctor. Usually 2-3 procedures per week are needed and the total number depends on the skin conditions and can vary between 20 and 30 procedures.
One of the successfully treated conditions is Psoriasis. This is a frequent skin condition , often genetically inherited that can be in different form of seriousness and can affect smaller or larger area of the skin. For optimal results in severe cases, combined treatment is applied . Other skin conditions that are indicated for phototherapy are:
- Atopic Dermatitis
-Vitiligo
- Lichen planus
-Pruritus
-Neurodermatitis
-Parapsoriasis
-Pityriasis rosea
Sometimes slight redness may occur after the treatment and skin may feel dry and itchy. This may require longer period between treatments and more frequent use of skin hydration products. It is important to know that for optimal results you have to follow the prescribed therapy, frequency and doctor’s instructions.
